Low Entropy - The Complete Breakcore Archives 1997-2004

in the last years, i released plenty of formerly unreleased tracks by me, on various releases, often together with new material or remixes.
it would be a kind of detective work to find and get them all. so i thought, i should create two releases were they are all together; in two genres. breakcore and speedcore.
this is an (almost) complete archive of my unreleased speedcore and breakcore tracks, that i did in my first period of music. i worked on this music between my start as a producer, 1997, and the end of my first phase, 2004. while a lot of my speed and break stuff found it's way to vinyl or CD, or other releases, quite some tracks remained unreleased.
a lot of this stuff was done on tracker technology, in ms-dos, with the focus on sample manipulation and all kinds of digital distortion. influences were labels like praxis, fischkopf, artists like patric catani or mouse and no name. so here are these tracks. some of them were never digitally released before.

the extreme and experimental hardcore scene in the 90s was always about subverting dance music tropes; replacing sweet vocals with screams, happy melodies with full-on noise. one other method was to get away from the typical dance tempos of these songs; an idea that fueled speedcore with its extreme bpms. yet there was always the other direction possible: to get slower and slower. some early industrial hardcore songs had something in that direction, but it was not followed on.

i was intrigued by this idea too. one of the earliest tracks i produced was cyberspace, a 60 bpm anthem (in 1997). yet somehow i too lost interest and got into other fields, like 800 bpm speedcore productions.
with the rise of doomcore and industrial hardcore (again) in the last years, slower productions suddenly came into the fields of vision again. i lodged myself comformtably at producing 126 bpm tracks, and it was nice to see some other artists lowered the tempo too. "slowcore" till now did not really become a "thing", which is a shame. there is something very special about slow - or rather extreme slow music. that can not be done quite like it in other tempos.

in other genres we have super slow bands like bohren & der club of gore, or the slower ends of doom and funeral doom metal. let's bring these concepts to hardcore too. i really think a body of work is possible, with tracks in the slowest range of the bpm spectrum.

(yes i know one track is over the 50 BPM limit the cover suggests; but the picture just fitted so good).

so there is only one thing left to say: hardcore!!! slower!!!

tracklisting:

1. Creeping Doom (1 BPM)
2. Thunderdoom (1 BPM)
3. 50 Bpm Doomcore (50 BPM)
4. Cascades 4 (32 / 63 BPM)
5. Battleship (32 BPM)
6. Futuristic 1 (Slowcore Makeover) (8 / 16 / 32 BPM)

In the beginning, the Hardcore Techno scene had heavy ties to the tracker / mod / demo-scene.
A lot of Hardcore tracks made it from being created on trackers to being released on vinyl or CD and became "hits" - like the output of Hardsequencer, Neophyte, Nasenbluten or Cybermouse showed.

But a lot of it never made it to a physical release, and was instead created, distributed and enjoyed in the digital mod scene - spread on BBS systems, the early internet, or just diskettes.

It's a hidden treasure of sound still unknown to many people. A lot of stuff from the tracker scene can definetely be compared in production, creativity, and most important, fun, to the "big" or official releases. this is a tribute mix to this sound!

Ravebusters were some of the most interesting groups in the tracker scene of the 90s. Focusing on Rave, Trance

and Hardcore productions, they both did amazing original productions and remixes of known tracks.
There was always a high level of technical quality to their productions, as well as face-melting insanity.
Enjoy!

One and a half year after my first Funeral Doomcore mix it is time for round two. Find tracks with 1, 32, 64, 100 and inbetween bpm here. Pounding drums intermingled with "klimper" melodies. There are also two tracks as a collaboration with the stunning vocalist Countess M.
Slowcore and Funeral Doomcore needs to be pushed, and I hope to see more stuff in this genre being produced. Can it be the sound of the future?

01. Meta-Morph - Doomicide (32 BPM)
02. Battleship (32 BPM)
03. Cascades 4 (32 / 63 BPM)
04. Futuristic Slowcore Makeover (8 / 16 / 32 BPM)
05. Thunderdoom (1 BPM)
06. Creeping Doom (Vocal) (With Countess M) (1 BPM)
07. Dark World (Vocal) (With Countess M) (32 / ? BPM)
08. In your Grayve (63 BPM)
09. Falling Angels (63 BPM)
10. Alucard Doomcore (100 BPM)
